Paths to security
No path is "right". Many or all paths may be taken to reach your comfortable posture. Each is a distinct way of looking at cybersecurity:
Be mindful of your development along each path and try to keep them balanced, since too much inequality of strength can itself be a weakness.
- Most people still favour keeping their heads down, that is to say
security by obscurity.
- Others find sharing knowledge and intelligence is important. /Security
in communities/ (safety in numbers).
- Security by strength (walls and ciphers), is probably what most people
first think of as a security path.
- Security by guile (outwit the opponent), is appealing but difficult as there are always smarter opponents.
- Security by appeal (ask for protection), is the weakest yet most prevalent path. Hired muscle soon becomes a hostile protection racket.
- Security of mind (peaceful disposition) is the master's way and it is the most difficult path.
